Plagiarism
Plagiarism is an action of someone using someone’s
word, language, thoughts, or idea and confess it as their original work. The
things that considered to plagiarism are turning in someone else’s work as your
own, copying words or idea from someone else without giving credit, not giving
a correct information about the source of the ideas, not giving a credit
copying the sentence structure of a source, copying a lot of words, language,
ideas and thoughts from the source that makes up the majority of your work.
According to
Lindsey, plagiarism is the act of plagiarizing other people's ideas, or works
to be recognized as their own work or to use other people's work without
mentioning the source so that it raises false or erroneous assumptions about
the origin of an idea or work (Soelistyo, 2011).
Kind of plagiarism
1.
Plagiarism of
ideas, it is difficult to prove this type of plagiarism because the ideas are
in an abstract form and it is possible to have a similar idea with someone, or
there are no differences between two ideas of two different writers.
2.
Word for word
plagiarism, this type is similar with the slavish copy. They are quoting other
people’s word or idea in word for word without mentioning the source.
3.
Plagiarism of
source, this types of plagiarism is not mentioning a complete source.
4.
Plagiarism of
authorship, copying someone’s work. They do this consciously and trying to
lying to many people.
There are some authorities about plagiarism. For
instance, UU No.19 tahun 2002, regarding copyright, the law explained that
plagiarism is a criminal act. Another authority that concern about plagiarism is
article 72 paragraph (1) "Whoever intentionally and without the right to
commit acts as referred to in Article 2 paragraph (1) or Article 49 paragraph
(1) and paragraph (2) shall be liable to a minimum of 1 (one) month
imprisonment and / or a minimum fine. Rp. 1,000,000.00
(one million rupiah), or a maximum imprisonment of 7 (seven) years and / or a
maximum fine of Rp. 5,000,000,000.00 (five billion rupiah) ".
